The role of the Board of Education is to establish policies that govern the education of all children attending the Carmel schools. As chief school officer, the Superintendent of Schools is charged with seeing that these policies are carried out.

Meetings of the Board of Education are generally held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM. These are public meetings and you are encouraged to attend. Click here for the full meeting schedule for the 2008-09 school year.

The meeting on the second Tuesday is typically a work session that offers the Board an opportunity to review program recommendations, policies, and to discuss district business. These take place in the Carmel High School Library.

The meeting on the fourth Tuesday is a regular Board of Education meeting. At these sessions, the Board will vote to adopt policies and accept recommendations that were made and reviewed at the work sessions. Also, district residents can address the Board on subjects of interest at the OPEN SESSION.

There are two such opportunities for public comment; one at the beginning of the meeting and another at the end.
